Lockheed L1011-1 Tristar accident report
Friday 29 December 1972 Eastern Airlines Lockheed L1011-385-1 Tristar 1 N310EA s/n 193A-1011. Flight EA401 from New York (JFK) to Miami (MIA) with 13 crew and 163 passengers. On approach to MIA the landing gear did not lock. The aircraft circled while the crew tried to solve the nose landing gear problem. The crew did not notice that the aircraft gradually descended. And finally the airplane hit the ground in a left bank and disintegrated. It crashed into the Everglades swamp. Wreckage was scattered over an area +- 1600 ft long and 300 ft wide. Flight DL191 from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Dallas (DFW) with 11 crew and 152 passengers. ILS approach to RW 17L at DFW in rainy weather with thunderstorms around.
The aircraft was pushed down by windshear and crashed upon state highway 114 hitting a car. First flight : 1979 Airframe hrs : 20555 cycles : 11186 engines : RR RB211-22B. 134 people on board died in the crash and 1 on the ground in a car on the highway. 30 people were injured. location : +-50 m 32°55’00”N 97°01’00”W
