weight and performance calculations for the Macchi M.3 (L.3)
Macchi M.3 (L.3)
role : light maritime two-seat patrol aircraft, ASW
importance : ***
first flight : operational : October 1916
country : Italy
design :
production : 200 aircraft
general information :
Developed from the L.2 flying boat, it had a refined hull and new tail plane design. In 1916 a L.3 gained the world altitude record for seaplanes by reaching 5400m altitude in 41 minutes. It was an excellent aircraft and 200 were built who served for the rest of the war for maritime patrol, ASW and bombing duties.
