Flight AS261 from Puerto Vallarte (PVR), Mexico to San Francisco (SFO), USA with 5 crew and 83 passengers. En route at FL310 a problem arose with the stabilizer trim. The aircraft descended while the crew tried to correct the problem, but the out-of-trim condition got worse and in the end the crew lost control and the aircraft crashed in the ocean. Cause : failure of the horizontal stabilizer trim system jackscrew assembly. Friday 30 November 2007 Atlasjet Airlines MD-83 TC-AKM c/n 53185 The aircraft was leased from World Focus airlines. Flight 4203 from Istanbul (IST) to Isparta (ISE), Turkiye with 7 crew and 50 passengers. The aircraft was cleared for VOR/DME approach to RW05. However the flight crew failed to program the arrival procedure in the FMS resulting that the aircraft got of course. The EGPWS failed to sound shortly before it crashed into the 1830m high Turbetepe Hill and disintegrated. first flight : 1994

Flight 9J992 from Abuja (ABV), Nigeria to Lagos (LOS) with 6 crew and 147 passengers. first flight : 1990. During approach power was lost. in both engines (PUF) resulting in the aircraft to crash in a residential area 9.3km short of Lagos RW23. Cause : maintenance of the engines was not done compliant and flight crew should have made an emergency landing when problems with the engine occurred.

Thursday 24 July 2014 Air Algerie MD-83 EC-LTV c/n 53190 aircraft leased from Swiftair. Flight AH5017 from Ougadougou (OUA), Burkino Faso to Algiers (ALG), Algeria with 6 crew and 110 passengers. first flight : 1996. En route at FL310 control was lost, probably due to icing blocking pressure sensors resulting in the auto-throttle acting wrong and the aircraft lost speed and then stalled from with the crew could not recover. CVR was to badly damaged to be of use.
